March 11, 2019 – Cody A. Raulston, 26, of Dunlap, died at the scene after rolling a Polaris side-by-side just after midnight Sunday morning.
According to the Sequatchie County Sheriff's Office (SCSO), someone called 911 at 12:51 a.m. Sunday, March 10, to report a wreck on Kelly Cross Road, near the intersection with Bostontown Road.
“Cody Raulston was pronounced dead on scene,” Detective Jody Lockhart said today. “Highway Patrol was notified.”
Raulston, who was driving the ATV, was the only fatality. The other three occupants of the vehicle – Haley E. Knox, Michael B. Smith, and Raulston's wife Marissa B. Raulston – were uninjured, Det. Lockhart said.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), the 2018 Polaris Ranger was traveling northbound on Kelly Cross Road when the right wheels slipped off the pavement. Raulston overcorrected, causing the vehicle to turn over, onto the driver's side of the ATV, killing Raulston.
None of the occupants was wearing a seat belt, the THP report stated.
The THP is investigating the accident.
