The motorcycle that wrecked early Saturday morning on Fredonia Road was totally destroyed, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Oct. 8, 2018 – Michael Thomas Land, 31, of Dunlap was killed in a motorcycle accident just after midnight Saturday morning, Oct. 6.
According to Dunlap Police Chief Clint Huth, officers were dispatched to a single-vehicle accident on Fredonia Road at Davis Street “just before 1 o'clock in the morning.”
The vehicle, described as a 2005 Honda CBR, was coming down Fredonia Road, eastbound, at a high rate of speed.
“The bike laid over on its side, and the motorcycle went down the embankment between Davis Street and Fredonia Road, and crossed over into the yard at 94 Davis St.,” Chief Huth said Monday. “The victim was found on the embankment. He was wearing a helmet, but he was pronounced dead on scene.”
Puckett EMS and the medical examiner responded to the scene of the wreck, and the victim was transported to Erlanger Sequatchie emergency room, Huth said.
“Nothing at this point indicates drugs or alcohol were involved,” Huth said, “but toxicology tests will be done, because that's the normal procedure with any traffic fatality.
“The contributing factor was speeding,” he added. “He came into that turn too fast, and couldn't negotiate the turn.”
Huth said the motorcycle traveled “more than 250 feet, after it laid down.”
Both wrecked on Cagle Mountain, and both were pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.
