Intense blaze destroys residence on Fredonia Mountain

Sept. 17, 2018 – Detectives with the Sequatchie County Sheriff’s Department happened to spot smoke from a house fire on Fredonia Mountain Monday morning, Sept. 17, before the homeowner even knew there was a problem.

The lady in the garden didn’t know the house was on fire,” Det. Jason Harvey said Monday afternoon.

Harvey and another detective spotted the smoke about 11:45 a.m., and when they went to investigate, they immediately called the Dunlap and Fredonia volunteer fire departments.

When firefighters responded to the scene they found heavy smoke coming from the residence. When they attempted an interior attack on the blaze, they were forced out by the extreme heat and rapidly deteriorating conditions.

The house, located at 2011 Fredonia Rd., was a total loss, but there were no injuries. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but investigators do not believe any foul play is involved.

After approximately three hours on scene, all units were returned to service.
