April 12, 2018 – At 12:53 a. m. Thursday, April 12, the Dunlap Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire on Branch Road. According to Fire Chief Norman Hatfield, there was no one in the home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported, but the fire was deemed “suspicious in nature."
“This is an area we've had frequent fires in,” Chief Hatfield said.
When firefighters arrived, they found a single-wide mobile home fully involved, and flames were threatening to spread to a second trailer nearby.
According to a spokesman for the fire department, “Firefighters began an initial exterior attack of the fire before transitioning to an aggressive interior attack to extinguish the blaze. There were no injuries, but the mobile home is a total loss.”
The second mobile home received only minor damage to one corner.
Officers notified the American Red Cross, which will assist the occupants with their immediate needs.
Deputies from the Sequatchie County Sheriff's Department assisted at the scene and are investigating the cause of the fire.
