Feb. 27, 2018 – A single-car accident on Cagle Mountain Sunday afternoon, Feb. 25, injured two young children and resulted in charges being brought against two adults in the vehicle.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) a 2003 Buick wrecked on TN 111.
Witnesses reported that the car was traveling southbound and left the roadway as it passed the Cagle Volunteer Fire Department about 5 p.m. Tire tracks left in the wet dirt ended on the hill in front of the Cagle Community Center, where the event sign was broken and letters were strewn across the ground.
According to Lieutenant John Harmon of the THP, the driver lost control of the vehicle and the car overturned. The two little girls injured in the accident were flown to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga by Life Force helicopter.
Jonathan Farley, 35, and Tiffany Smith, 29, both of Dunlap, have been charged with child neglect and failure to render aid, Lt. Harmon said Tuesday.
“The driver of the vehicle is unknown, and this crash is still under investigation,” Harmon said.
Comments purportedly left by relatives of the children on Facebook stated that the two little girls are going to be okay.
The Sequatchie County Sheriff's Department and Cagle Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene of the accident.
